Hoda ElMaraghy is a Distinguished University Professor and founding Director of the Intelligent Manufacturing Systems (IMS) Center at the University of Windsor where she became the first woman Dean of Engineering in Canada. She held a senior Canada Research Chair (CRC) in Manufacturing Systems for 14 years. A recipient of the Order of Ontario for being “a trail-blazer, inspiration and mentor to aspiring young men and women engineers in Canada and beyond, whose research helped influence public policy, positioning Canada at the forefront of emerging transformative technologies and global trends in manufacturing”. Dr. ElMaraghy is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada (RSC), Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences (IVA), International Academy of Production Engineering (CIRP), Canadian Academy of Engineering (CAE), Canadian Society of Mechanical Engineers (CSME) and Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME). She received an Honorary Doctorate from Chalmers University in Sweden. Professor Hoda ElMaraghy obtained Master and PhD degrees from McMaster University and was the first woman faculty member in Mechanical Engineering where she founded the Research Center for Flexible Manufacturing. She has received many awards including the Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) Medal for Research, Graduate Supervision and Teaching Award and Best Paper awards. She has supervised more than 100 researchers and has over 500 publications.

 

 

Data-Driven Computational Design of Engineered Material Systems

Dr. Wei Chen is the Wilson-Cook Chair Professor in Engineering Design at Northwestern University. Her current research involves issues such as simulation-based design under uncertainty; model validation and uncertainty quantification; data science in design and advanced manufacturing; stochastic multiscale analysis and materials design; design of metamaterials; multidisciplinary design optimization; consumer choice modeling and decision-based design. Dr. Chen is an elected Fellow of American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) and a member of the National Academy of Engineering (NAE). She received her B.S. in mechanical engineering from Shanghai Jiao Tong University in 1988 and her Ph.D. from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 1995. She is currently serving as the Editor-in-chief of the ASME Journal of Mechanical Design (JMD) and the President of International Society of Structural and Multidisciplinary Design (ISSMO).
